Ticket Out the Door

Student Reflection

Summary

Students need to reflect as well as teachers. Reflection allows students to take ownership of their learning and motivate students to work harder at their learning. Reflection also allows students to process information and commit learning to their long term memory.  Ticket Out the Door is a quick/easy way to build reflection into the day.

How to

Create tickets.  You can simply cut scratch paper into quarters or have a pre-made form.  Have students write one or two learning on their tickets as well as answer an ineresting question related to the day's learning.  Student must give you their tickets in order to leave the room.  Use the student reflection to guide instruction.

Sample

Visit Teaching in the Inner City for a longer discussion on using this strategy as well as sample tickets.  Open Court 2002 Third Grade and Second Grade Tickets are available at my Box.net.
