Goal Setting

Building a Community of Learners

Summary

Having students set their learning and personal goals throughout the year builds a community of learners focused on their learning and self-improvement.

How To

For the younger students, at the beginning of the school year, have them brainstorm their goals for the year.  It may be unrealistic.  Have them revise for realistic goals.  Let the students choose three goals that they will focus on.  Have students record at least one realistic strategy for achieving each goal.  Display goals throughout the room.  Every few weeks, have students go back to their goal sheets and update, revise, and change.  Continue this conversation throughout the year.  Always discuss their improvements and celebrate the improvements.
